Pekapeka (meaning “to stop off, visit, call in) Wetland is a publicly accessible area alongside State Highway 2, south of Hastings. Half an hour drive from Napier. It covers 98 hectares and is one of the few remaining large, inland wetlands in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. A wide range of water fowl can be seen, plus the elusive bittern. Manuhiri (visitors) can easily follow the track, with interpretation signs to learn about the history and ecological value of Pekapeka Wetland.
