  • Enjoy finding out about Napier’s rich and interesting Māori history on a Koru Enterprises one and a half hour walking tour. Meet your guide outside the iconic “Pania” statue, on Marine Parade. Our friendly guides will share local Māori pūrākau (stories) and legends from a bygone era.

Tour includes visiting the MTG-Hawke’s Bay Museum, taking a deeper look into the stunning taonga (treasures) inside! We then walk around Cathedral Lane, and find out where legendary artist Gottfried Lindauer would paint many rangatira (high ranking Māori leaders). Next door is the “Napier Antique Centre”, which features a stunning kōwhaiwhai pattern throughout the building.

We carry on along Hastings street to the historic ASB bank, and hear the wonderful story of the building’s striking Māori design features.

Afterwards, we cross over Marine Parade towards the Soundshell, finishing the tour by the moana (ocean), and listen to how Māui fished up the North Island, more history and legends of Te Kauwae-a-Māui (Cape Kidnappers). Finally, past Napier i-Site to visit 2019 landscape sculpture award winning Jacob Scott’s “Marineland” taonga (treasure).

Tour concludes with a poroporoaki (farewell).
