Kia ora rangatahi Māori! Welcome to an exciting and rewarding Manaaki Manuhiri internship programme, based in Napier, Hawke’s Bay! Learn the art of tour guiding, local Ngāti Kahungunu history, and protocols, inside this new programme, where you can join our Napier Cultural Walking Tours as a part-time tour guide!

Koru Enterprises takes much pride and excitement in bringing to Ahuriri-Napier a training opportunity for rangatahi (young people) aged 16-29 years, to study the art of Māori tour guiding. This Manaaki Manuhiri course is a 60 hour part-time study in strong kaupapa Māori, aligning itself to ‘Te Puia’ New Zealand Māori arts and crafts institute Rotorua standards. The Manaaki Manuhiri internship takes students through a holistic 8 kaupapa matua style programme ensuring that the student appreciate the following:

. Ūkaipo – confidence in themselves

. Whakawhānaungatanga – exceptional teamwork

. Tikanga (and kawa) – respect for Māori values (and values paticular to a specific Maori location) 

. Kaitiakitanga –  environmental awareness and 

. Pūmanawa – best practice in hosting and guiding. 

Pre-requisites: Ngāti Kahungunu descent, a positive attitude, and a strong desire to enter the vibrant Aotearoa tourism industry.

Course details: Starts Monday, March 16, 2020

Time: 6-9pm

Venue: St Luke’s Church, Vigor Brown St, Napier

Cost: $450 Part payments available by negotiation

Programme runs every Monday, from 6-9pm, and Saturdays 1-6pm, break for Easter and resumes after the school holiday break.
