Mākutu Shawl PDF Knitting Pattern

“It’s still magic even if you know how it’s done.”
― Terry Pratchett, A Hat Full of Sky
Ever since I picked up the knitting needles for the first time, I have always found the process of knitting to be a magical and fascinating one. From sheep, to skein, to needle to the final object, each step of the fiber’s journey transforms it in such a radical way that I sometimes have to step back in order to appreciate how much this craft has evolved over the centuries.
The Maakutu shawl is a design to delight the needles and soothe the soul, to reflect this magical experience. Combining the meditative nature of stockinette stitch (during which perhaps you can reflect on the transformative nature of knitting) and the excitement of lace knitting, this project will bewitch you from putting it down. It makes a pleasant addition to any knitter’s handmade wardrobe, to add to the collection of other magical pieces.
